The Area
Noss Head,

Seaview Cottage sits on the Noss Head peninsula, just 3 miles from Wick in the far north east of Scotland. This is a place of dramatic cliffs, coastal walking directly from the cottage, historic castles, and some of the finest wildlife viewing in mainland Britain.
The cottage grounds are managed for wildlife, with wild ponds and organic farmland attracting an extraordinary range of birds, moths, and wildflowers including the rare Scottish Primrose, Frog Orchid, and Oysterplant. The willows and organic farmland surrounding the cottage also attract unusual moth species. Nearby Sandigoe Bay features unspoilt beaches with cliff path access and seasonal puffins.

Birdwatching
Noss Head peninsula is renowned for its attraction to migrant birds, particularly during May and September to October. The cottage garden has recorded rare visitors including Red Backed Shrikes, Great Grey Shrikes, Yellow Browed Warblers, Pallas' Warblers, Bluethroats, Scarlet Rosefinches, Subalpine Warblers, Little Buntings, and Common Crane. Sea Eagles have been spotted near the property. The RSPB Forsinard reserve offers access to one of the largest single expanses of blanket bog in the world.
Seawatching & Wildlife
Orca, minke and humpback whales can be seen from the shoreline, with seals basking along the coast. Take a trip out with Caithness Seacoast for an unforgettable close encounter with the marine wildlife.
Northern Lights & Dark Skies
Caithness is one of the best places in mainland Britain to see the Aurora Borealis. The dark skies around Noss Head are ideal for stargazing and aurora viewing — check with the Caithness Astronomy Group and Wild North Skies for forecasts. Five different lighthouses visible from the garden at night add to the magic.
Historic Castles
Castle Sinclair Girnigoe is just a short walk from the cottage — dramatic ruins perched on the clifftops. Don't miss the Castle and Gardens of Mey, the Queen Mother's beloved Highland retreat.
Fishing
Flatfish and sea trout from the beaches, rock fishing off Noss Head for cod and pollock, loch fishing for brown trout, or boat trips from Wick Harbour. Tackle and permits from Hugo Rossin Wick. There's fishing for everyone in Caithness.
